Healing Your Wound
So now you've got some fresh new art on your body, but with that, you also have a fresh wound that needs nurturing. Taking care of a fresh tattoo can be intimidating, but with the proper care routine you should heal up quite nicely.

In my studio i used a bandage called "second skin" it is an adhesive based bandage that adheres to your skin surrounding the design. Once the bandage has been placed, it should be kept on the wound for no more than four to five days. In that period you will start to see what is called an "ink sack" develop. Its completely normal and consists of excess ink and fluids your body is creating to heal itself. This is also known as plasma, but don't be alarmed, it's all a part of the process. When it comes time to take your bandage off, do so gently by stretching down the corners of the bandage away from the center of the tattoo. Wash with non scented, antibacterial and non abrasive soap. Use warm water and wash the area twice a day, or whenever it is exposed to irritants. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel. It's also helpful to prep your environment for healing, clean bed sheets, fresh towels and clothes.

While you're healing your fresh wound avoid any strenuous physical activity or work outs that could cause excess perspiration or bacteria to floor to the area.

It is completely fine to shower with the bandage on, but please avoid any prolonged exposure to water or sun while the tattoo is in its healing stage.

Once the bandage is off the area that has been tattooed can be quite dry and itchy, so to help mediate some of the discomfort you may use a non scented lotion to moisturize the area. This itchy period may last another week or so. Avoid over application of lotion, and refrain from scratching or picking at the area.

To help your tattoos remain bright and vibrant throughout time, moisturize often once completely healed. If you plan to spend time out in the sun apply a sunscreen of at least 15 SPF over your tattoos.
